An Intentional Community

Puueo is an ahupua’a that runs from the sea to about six miles up the side of Mauna Kea. Amauulu road runs about 2/3 of the length of the ahupua’a ending at a waterfall. This is shown below

The very top section, shown below, is owned by Mahilani Partners, and is currently Conservation Resource. It has many mature Koa trees, but also Waiwai which is an invasive plant that has killed many of the lower elevation Koa trees. This section was above the area that could profitably grow sugar cane and was left alone except for flumes that brought water to flumes that were used to float sugar cane to the mill a the coast. There is also a small section that has Eucalyptus Robusta planted on it.

There are also five AG20 lots owned by Mahilani Partners that will be for sale:

Most of the current lots up here are owned by friends that try to take care of each other. This community has monthly parties with a potluck and music and dance. The new properties described above provide an opportunity to expand the community. The goal is to add people to the community that want to help each other and perhaps work together on a common project. The new lots will be sold to people who want to be part of the community.

One possibility is for the owners of the new lots and current community members to join in an effort to do something meaningful with the large lot at the end of the a ahupua’a. This lot is potentially beautiful and valuable. Below is one possibility for that lot:

What this community will be like and what projects or events the community will work on will depend on who is in the community. The Biological Garden is only a possibility, not a well defined goal.

Thee are also five properties also owned by Mahilani Partners that are adjacent to the large piece.
